About Jean: "Biologist rate amongst the people most satisfied with their careers. That statement certainly fits our biology faculty at BSC. I love learning about all aspects of living things. As I age, my interests expand. I was trained as an ornithologist (birds) but have recently focused on corals. I have a 180 gallon coral reef in the student study lounge on the biology floor in the Jack Science Center. It is a beautiful example of living art. On a personal note, I have 3 sons that have offered me many great examples of growth and development to share with my classes, much to their dismay. I am an avid gardener. I enjoy being outside in all seasons. I am an active member of the Bismarck/Mandan bird club and I spend a lot of time sewing and listening to music."

About Ron: I have had the privilege of a very diverse academic background. My B.A. was from the University of Minnesota, Duluth, where I majored in Biology and Anthropology. I earned my Ph.D. in Anatomy at the University of North Dakota, and then did a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of South Carolina. My research involved cancer biology, and cardiac development and disease.

About Yvette: Yvette teaches Physical Science and Biology. She developed and teaches Biology 296 Survey of Tropical Biology. Biology 296 is a course designed to provide students with a solid foundation in tropical biological concepts and field census techniques as applied to tropical rainforest ecosystems. The students travel to Costa Rica to experience a tropical ecosystem.

About Jayne: I love teaching and have been teaching for many years. My first teaching jobs were in small country high schools where I taught everything I knew. I had classes in Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, and Physical Science. I was even a gymnastics and cheerleading coach. I earned a Master's degree from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville in Biology. My research there involved study of primary production in head water streams of the Oachita Mountains. I taught Developmental Mathematics, Biology, and Anatomy & Physiology at Westark College in Fort Smith, Arkansas before coming to BSC. Now my Ph.D. is in Teaching and Learning so I have come full circle. The research I have done in higher education involved student sense of community in both face-to-face and online classes. Teaching and learning at Bismarck State College is a happy experience.

About Eric: I enjoy all aspects of biology especially when related to fish. During graduate school, I had the opportunity to look at energetic relationships between trematodes and fish hosts. Currently at BSC, I take care of a 125 gallon freshwater tank that houses fishes of North Dakota. Species have included largemouth bass, walleye, yellow perch, and white suckers. The tank has been a wonderful learning experience for me and many students.

About Deb: I have a twenty plus year background in medical microbiology. I worked as a Medical Technologist in the microbiology department at a hospital for nearly twenty years. After the events of 9-11, an opportunity to work in bioterrorism presented itself and I was hired as the North Dakota Laboratory Response Network Bioterrorism Education Coordinator. I was able to receive training by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. It was a life changing experience for me. I have a passion for microbiology and I bring my personal experiences from my past careers to enhance the classroom experience. There are always emerging infectious diseases so my excitement to share this information with my students never wanes!
