SHELDON WEISBECK CHOSEN AS COMMENCEMENT SPEAKER

April 19, 2012

Sheldon Weisbeck has been chosen as 2012 student commencement speaker. Weisbeck is a Herreid, S.D., native and is graduating with an Associate in Applied Science degree in Agriculture, Technology and Natural Resources. He is a member of Phi Theta Kappa honor society and was team captain of the Mystic's men's basketball team this year.

Sheldon chose BSC for two reasons: basketball and agriculture. Playing basketball with his brother, Kyle, '11, a former All American for the Mystics, influenced his athletic choice. But it was his grandparents, farmers for many years, who inspired his vocational choice.

His BSC instructors describe Sheldon as polite, focused, genuine, humble, and a person of "outstanding character." In his two years at BSC, he missed only four days of class - and those were the four days he spent in Danville, Ill., for the NJCAA National Division II basketball tournament in March.

Following graduation, Sheldon will begin working for an agriculture producer in his hometown of Herreid, S.D. He eventually plans to boost his local economy, and meet a regional need, by establishing a precision agriculture business there.
