SNOW/ICE REMOVAL PROCEDURE

Bismarck State College takes a proactive approach to snow and ice removal on campus. The safety of employees, students and general public is considered at all times when it's necessary to remove snow/ice.
Snow removal on campus is done on sidewalks when there is a light dusting of snow and in parking lots when accumulations are above 1" of snow.
Snow removal procedures for parking lots and sidewalks are initiated by the Grounds Supervisor. All employees assisting with snow removal are directed by the Grounds Supervisor. Custodial staff may be called, if necessary.
Snow removal procedures will be completed by 7:00 a.m. Snow removal may need to be repeated during the day, if snow conditions continue.

Salting/Sanding
All sidewalks/stairs are checked for ice or compacted snow daily. Any area that has an accumulation needs to be salted immediately.
All parking lots need to be sanded from freezing rain or compacted snow. Sanding should be done prior to 7:00 a.m. but may be repeated during the day if conditions warrant it.
Custodians in assigned buildings maintain doorways and adjacent sidewalk areas free of snow and ice during normal work shifts and special events.
Record Keeping
A log is maintained on all snow removal activities. Record date, type of activity (snow removal, sanding, sidewalks, etc) time it started and ended, location of activity, and who completed it. Click to print the Snow Ice Removal Log.
Snow/ice removal is a top priority during winter months to ensure the safety of everyone. BSC employees must notify the Physical Plant office of any potential hazardous areas, which will be addressed immediately.
