I am proud to serve the science and engineering faculty. It is my goal to provide them guidance and resources as we set a course into the new educational paradigm of the 21st century. This model includes student-centered learning, integration of courses and course content, incorporation of cutting edge technologies in the classroom and promotion of active learning. -- Jean Rolandelli

Born and raised in New York state, Jean finished high school in Bloomington, Minn. She holds an MS in zoology from North Dakota State University and a BA in biology from St. Cloud State University (Minn.). After college, she worked as a wildlife biologist for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and later operated a licensed daycare in Illinois. After returning to North Dakota, Jean taught two years as an adjunct and became full-time Assistant Professor of Biology in 1998. She has been department chair since 2003 and was granted tenure in 2004.
Jean's professional passions include biology, ornithology, coral reef ecology and environmental issues. She is active on the BSC recycling and sustainability teams, has worked with the city of Bismarck and BSC's Phi Theta Kappa students on environmental projects. She volunteers her recycling expertise to help other organizations set up recycling programs. She maintains a coral reef a in the Jack Science Center for the biology students and has developed an aquarium keeping class in response to BSC students' desire to learn more about the reef.
According to Jean, "The science and engineering faculty are a diverse group of dedicated teachers who have made teaching their passion. Our focus is to provide rigorous, high-quality instruction in a positive learning environment. We know the success of our students is our greatest reward. We believe teaching to be an evolving art."
